On Wonderblocks, we set out to create a visual identity that felt naturally connected to Numberblocks, Alphablocks, and Colourblocks—like members of the same family—while still standing confidently on its own with a distinct personality.

By embracing a minimalist design approach, we used both its constraints and creative possibilities to shape an iconic look for the characters and the world they inhabit.

Characters

We carried the same minimalist philosophy into the character designs. Their simple shapes and freely moving body parts gave us the flexibility to push poses and expressions further, allowing for greater clarity, personality, and range of movement.

Environment

We wanted the world to deliberately contrast with the show’s “tech” theme, avoiding the idea of characters surrounded by screens or living inside a computer. Instead, we designed an environment that feels tactile and hands-on—almost like a collection of felt toys viewers could imagine playing with.

A shallow depth of field gives the show a semi-miniature quality, reinforcing this crafted feel. In this playful world, lakes aren’t deep bodies of water but simple layers of blue “felt” resting on top of the grass. That same sense of low-tech charm and playfulness carries through to the designs of the characters’ houses, musical instruments, and mechanical structures.

Iconography

Characters like Go, Stop, and the Do Blocks represent actions and can create magic to help others solve problems. The Do Blocks iconography highlights their actions, making it easier for viewers to recognize and solve problems alongside the characters on Wonderblocks.
